ArtistplusversusSquarespace

Squarespace builds beautiful websites for everybody, which is exactly why nothing in it knows what a release is. Artistplus is narrower on purpose.

Where each one wins

The case for moving from Squarespace

Squarespace is bigger and more flexible than us, and for most websites it wins. For a music site it is a kit of parts you assemble. Ours arrives assembled and stays current when your catalog changes.

  • Squarespace: Any website, and it is excellent at that

    Built for

    Artistplus: Musicians only

  • Squarespace: Modelled by you as pages or shop items

    Your catalog

Artistplus: Imported from streaming, with artwork and tracks

  • Squarespace: A third-party embed or a page you maintain

Artistplus: A native feature, with ticket links and states

  • Squarespace: Hundreds of templates, plus CSS and JavaScript

    Design range

  • Squarespace: A full store, courses, memberships, scheduling

    Selling

Artistplus: No store. Invoicing only, with no commission

Read from

01

Tour dates are a feature, not an embed

On a general builder a tour page is a table you keep by hand or a widget you rent. Here a show is a record: venue, set times, capacity, ticket link. Your site reads the dates you manage, and a played show archives itself.

  • Sold out and cancelled are one toggle each, not a manual edit
  • Residencies and weekly nights are one entry with a frequency and a count
  • Shows, cities, and countries are counted for you, for when a booker asks
/tour
The Tour dashboard: total shows, upcoming, cities and countries above a table of dates with venue, city, and status.
02

Your discography is not a product catalog

A general builder can display your records. You have to model them yourself, as pages or shop items, and keep them accurate. Artistplus already knows what a release is, so it imports yours with artwork and tracks and keeps syncing.

  • Track listings, streaming links, credits, ISRCs, BPM and key
  • New releases appear without you opening the dashboard
/catalog
The My Music catalog: release, live-on-site and lifetime-play counts above a grid of imported releases with their cover art.
03

Analytics that count plays, not just pageviews

Squarespace reports on a website, which is what it is. Artistplus reports on a music career: visitors and traffic sources next to plays, the cities your audience is actually in, and how often people click through to buy a ticket.

  • Visitors, sources, devices, and cities in one view
  • Plays counted alongside site traffic
  • Ticket-link click-through, so a tour announcement has a number
/analytics
Website traffic analytics: page views, unique visitors and sessions with a views-over-time chart across the selected period.

Moving over

What moving from Squarespace looks like

The site does not come across, and mostly it does not need to. What moves is a domain and facts about your music that Artistplus fetches itself.

  1. Build the new site from your streaming profile

Paste a Spotify or SoundCloud link and your releases, artwork and a first draft of the pages arrive. Nothing is rebuilt block by block.

  2. Move the words and the pictures

Your bio, photos and any writing worth keeping. Squarespace lets you export content and download images, and the rest is already in your catalog.

  3. Point the domain and keep your rankings

Connect the domain you own or buy one here. Artistplus generates metadata, share cards, sitemaps and a favicon, so the new site arrives indexable.

If your Squarespace site runs a shop, a course, or a booking calendar, read the split above again. Some of that has no equivalent here.

FAQ

Squarespace questions, answered

Can I just build a band site on Squarespace?

Yes, and plenty of good ones exist. You will model releases and tour dates yourself, embed a third-party tool for shows, and assemble a press kit by hand, and all of it stays your job as your catalog changes.

What does Squarespace cost?

When this page was written: Basic $19 a month, Core $29, Plus $49, Advanced $99, all billed annually, with a 14-day trial and no free plan. Email and advanced analytics start at Core.

Is the Squarespace free domain really free?

For one year. Their pricing FAQ says an annual plan includes a free custom domain for one year, then it renews at the usual rate. Artistplus never bundles a domain, so the plan price never changes at renewal.

Does Squarespace do email?

Through Google Workspace, on Core and above. A good product, and a partner product. Artistplus provisions mailboxes on the domain you manage here, one included on Headliner and add-ons below.

What does Squarespace do that Artistplus cannot?

Quite a lot. A full store with shipping and tax, courses and memberships, appointment scheduling, email campaigns, hundreds of templates, and CSS and JavaScript access. If you need those, take them. We are narrower on purpose.

Will moving hurt my search rankings?

Keeping the same domain is what matters most, and you can. Artistplus generates titles, descriptions, canonical URLs, share cards and a sitemap for every page, so the new site is indexable the day it publishes.
